5th Sunday Sharing at St. Timothy Lutheran Church

Fellowship Committee

Fellowship happens in the big and little events. Connecting with other through fun and food is enjoyable and for humans, I think, necessary. Celebrations mark milestones. St. Timothy people also forge bonds during the hard times; losing a family member, changing your job, enduring health problems, moving from home, missing friends that move away.

Food Bank

St. Tim distributes food, Pantry Style to our neighborhood, to between 25 and 50 people on the first three Fridays of every month. At nine in the morning the first folks arrive at the Hospitality House, where they get a number (by lottery), and share coffee, goodies, fellowship, and sometimes even music as we wait for the arrival of the trucks from the Oregon Food Bank and Franz Bakery.

At about ten in the morning, the trucks arrive. The food is arranged on tables outside of the Hospitality House. Then people, according to their number, pick up the food, taking their turn according to their number.

All are welcome to the table! We serve people from all over the world. At last count, nine different languages are spoken on these Friday mornings! It is truly an exhilarating experience.

5th Sunday Sharing at St. Timothy Lutheran Church

Our congregation believes that we are called to share the love we have received from God through Jesus whenever we are able. We give ourselves away in love as we follow our Lord. This means that we keep our eyes open to needs in the world that call out to us. Begun in 2001, 5th Sunday Sharing is an intentional extra-mile offering that we take whenever a month has 5 Sundays. Participating is up to each individual. The Church Council designates ministries that will receive the gifts. The Council is always glad for ministry suggestions. There has been an effort to rotate among ministries in diverse settings so that we reach out to local, national and global efforts.
